Explore Blackwell Coffee

Tucked away in the lively streets of Kichijoji, Musashino, Blackwell Coffee offers a cozy haven for coffee lovers seeking both quality and atmosphere. This small café, located at 3 Chome-3-10 Kichijoji Honcho, seats just a handful of guests with four intimate two-person tables and a bar that looks out onto the street, making it perfect for people-watching while savoring a cup of expertly brewed coffee. The owner takes pride in crafting each drink with care, and their passion shines through in options like the Cavatina (カヴァティーナ), a ¥550 treat that balances flavor and aroma beautifully. Inside, the café exudes a warm, relaxed vibe with a mix of American-style industrial touches and personal decorative accents, from little knick-knacks to shelves packed with Japanese books, including hidden gems like a Japanese translation of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. The ambiance is understated but engaging, with no background music to distract from the soft hum of conversation and the gentle clink of cups. Visitors often notice the attention to detail in every aspect of the café, from the minimalist but charming décor to the thoughtful touches, such as the owner’s friendly gestures toward guests immersed in a good book. While the coffee menu leans toward hot drinks with just a single iced option, the quality of each cup makes every visit worthwhile, especially for those who appreciate hand-brewed coffee made with meticulous care. With a tiny space that encourages lingering and an atmosphere that invites quiet enjoyment, Blackwell Coffee becomes more than just a stop for caffeine-it’s a place to savor the craft of coffee, the charm of Kichijoji, and a moment of calm amidst Tokyo’s bustle. The combination of delicious drinks, personal service, and cozy surroundings makes it a café that locals and visitors alike are drawn to, whether for a brief pit stop or a slow, indulgent coffee experience.

Quite an interesting little place with 11 seats and a lot of atmosphere. No BGM. Lots of decorations, little knick-knacks, and an interesting selection of Japanese books. A translation of "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" caught my eye. Fancy selection of hot coffees but only one ice option. No Wi-Fi. He gave me a butter bookmark, but maybe that was because I was reading the "Butter" book? (Just the corner is showing in my picture.) I think I should have gone for one of the exotic coffees rather than the iced coffee. Still I'm going to hold for a high four stars on the atmosphere and apparent popularity.

Cozy café with great coffee. I tried the Cavatina (カヴァティーナ) for ¥550 and it was delicious. The place has four tables for two people each and a bar with three or four seats. You can check the street from your seat through the window and the door pane. The atmosphere is relaxing, with a shelf full of books, nice music and pleasant decoration. The owner is friendly, and he prepares every cup of coffee with dedication.

Delicious hand brewed coffee made with passion by expert hands. Shop is tiny, cozy and owner is very friendly and polite. American style mixed industrial atmosphere make it a nice experience.

One of best coffees around this area - I personally like the Africa blend out of the three they had. Will try it some time soon but they make their own NY bagels and also sell Ama-nattou (Japanese sweet) which are fab!
